Worm Bin Maintenance
Take care of your worms and they'll take care of you!
  • Ideal temperatures are between 68-80 degrees

  • If temps exceed 80 degrees you can run cold water through the bed to help cool.  In extremely hot conditions, you may even place ice cubes on top of the beds particularly if using the small stackable bins.

  • If temps run cold you can maintain a fresh top layer of food on top which will tend to heat up to help keep them warm.

  • You may also bring the bin indoors or in a garage to help maintain appropriate temps

  • Bins must be well ventilated - wooden or plastic bins should have a lot of holes in the sides and bottom with a tray underneath to catch any "worm tea"

  • Worms require a very moist bed - over 40% but less than 75%

  • Turn the bed gently with a garden prong or fork once a week to help aerate the compost and to avoid packing
